don't forget our little friends

I've lived in my current home for 30 years.  Thirty years!!  I can't believe where the time has gone!

Anyway, it was only in the past year that I actually started really exploring my locality.  And I discovered a lovely little patch of woodland literally on my doorstep that I had no idea was there before.

We spent pretty well all of last autumn fully exploring all its pathways and hiding places, along with discovering a huge amount and variety of fungi there.  A real high point for me was having a squirrel run right over my feet while photographing a tree one day.

Like all woodland though, it's full of birds, and at this time of year particularly when it freezes, they can find getting enough calories and energy into them a real problem.

So, I've taken to hanging feeding stations up off the trees there with peanuts and fat balls for the birds to enjoy.  No doubt the squirrels have their fair share too, but I have hung them in locations that they might find it hard to access.  But squirrels are clever little devils and will probably find a way!

I'm off down there now to top everything up.  I hope they're enjoying the fruits, or I should say nuts, of my labours!

I bought a new (old) lens to help me get better pictures of my local wildlife.  To find out what it is, you can watch just by clicking below.  Go on - I guarantee you will become a better person just by watching; or your money back.
