bird watching

I'm predominantly a landscape photographer.  And as such my first love is taking pictures of things that don't move.

Last year I branched out (ha!!) into woodland photography and then followed that by concentrating on (...I'm so sorry that was such a bad pun) mushrooms.  Or it may have been the other way around but that's by the by.

I've never really had much of an interest in photographing moving things (other than the odd insect) but then late last year while out on a walk I spotted a robin in a tree and took its picture. When I got home, I was transfixed by its beauty.  Not my image, that was bang average, but by this simple little very common bird.

my very first effort

Then I took another picture of one.  And another.  And then a sparrow.  And now I'm hooked!  So much so that I've just bought a new (used) lens so I can photograph them from further away or get bigger images from the same distance - you get the drift.

So, here, now, today I present you with my smorgasbord of bird images.  Who knew it was so much fun, and so very addictive!

And check out this short clip of a nuthatch violently attacking a long-tailed tit.  I know birds can be nasty, but I've never seen behaviour like this before!

So, sparrows, robins, all sorts of tits, blackbirds and even a psychotic nuthatch.  But still no tree creeper (see my blog post on 23 January).  I will get one if it's my last ever picture!

And of course, there's a video.  There's ALWAYS a video:

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed these images and the video too.  I'm taking a short break from posting for a couple of weeks or so, but I'll be back soon enough as I know you'll all be soooo disappointed while I'm gone.  Won't y…. ah, I see...
