something I'll keep forever

I don't really get that attached to many things, especially items of tech like phones or cameras.

But there are a couple of items of such stuff that I will never part with, and one of them is my old MacBook laptop.

It's one of the white, plastic unibody ones and I bought it way back in 2010 just after it was released.  It was my first Apple laptop and a great companion for the desktop I also had at that time.  being able to take my Mac with me everywhere and anywhere I went was a great feeling.

Even my dog, Dexter loved it!  When he was a pup, he jumped up onto my lap one summer's day in the garden.  Trouble was I had my MacBook on my lap at the time.  White plastic keys and the mechanisms that lived beneath them were sent scattering to the four corners of the garden.  I gathered up what I could, ordered some replacement parts and rebuilt the keyboard.

At the same time, I figured I'd spruce it up a bit as well, so ordered a fast internal solid state drive to replace the spinning disc in it from new, and doubled the RAM from 4GB to 8GB.  And the machine had a new, fantastically speedy lease of life.

When I got sick and had to spend months on end in hospital, my little MacBook was a lifesaver. I was able to log onto the ward's wi-fi thanks to one of the staff who gave me the password (!!) and made loads of use of the DVD drive to watch movies.

It was the machine that launched this blog too.

But for the past few years it has sat unused, back in its original box and packaging.  I just have no use for it at all.  It is in immaculate condition, with all the original packaging and accessories and I probably really should sell it. But there's no way I can part with it after all we've been through together.

Perhaps I should boot it up for old-time's sake?  What do you reckon?
