wake up - we're being short changed everyone

Today is 29th February.  A day that exists in one of every four years.  A leap year if you prefer.

But have you ever stopped to wonder why we have this "extra" day every four years?  No?  OK, I'll tell you.

It has nothing to do with needing extra time for the Olympic host city to finish the facilities (!) but is all to do with the fact that a day does not last 24 hours exactly.  Instead, our planet rotates on its axis once every 23 hours, 56 minutes and four seconds.

See, we're being conned here!

Well, we're not, but in order to make time flow properly and to make sure that eventually summer doesn't happen in the middle of December (well, here in the northern hemisphere at least) we have this extra day every four years.

So, let's celebrate 29th February!

Now, when my mother was expecting me to burst into this world, it could very well have happened on this hallowed day.  I was actually born only a few days later.  And consequently, I've always wondered what it would have been like to have been born on that extra day.

Would I only celebrate a birthday every four years instead of annually?  Would I have done so on 28th February or 1st March.  Or both.  Think of the extra gifts!!  Would I technically only be 15 years old this year?

Now that would explain quite a lot!!!

Have you also ever wondered what a 15-year-old 60-year-old carried in his rucksack every day?  No?  OK, I'll tell you.  In the form of a video of course...

And there's a "bonus" video this week too.  The sun made a rare appearance and felt compelled to get outdoors and film the occasion of course.  You lucky, lucky people!!
