if Carlsberg did coincidences

UK readers of a certain age will get the title of this post.  If you don't fall into that bracket, then Carlsberg were a brewer of lager and their advertising hook was along the lines of "if Carlsberg did (insert some magical event here)...

Anyway, just over ten years ago (on 16 August 2016) I uploaded a post called "the birds" which you can read by clicking here, telling you all about a sparrowhawk that flew into our home.

Well, really quite remarkably, it's happened again, and almost ten years on from that first instance.  OK this happened on Thursday (3 September 2026) but, hey, it's close enough!  We heard a really loud clatter which I thought was a bird flying into one of our windows.  My wife then yelled that a bird had got inside the house.

And sure enough one had, and I really couldn't believe my eyes when I saw what it was - an identical sparrowhawk to the one that flew in all those years ago.

We removed our terriers from the area and with a cushion and a week's supply of bravery I ushered the flapping killing machine from the house.

We think it had been around the house for a few days as my neighbour had spotted him on our roof earlier in the week, and has been eyeing up the smaller, less murderous sparrows that frequent the feeders in the garden.

Anyway, if I'm still here in 2036 and the same thing happens again, I'll let you (and the authorities!) know!
