maxed out on frustration

Last month I saw my haematology team.  The news was not fantastic and it seems my pelvis is now crumbling at an alarming rate.  This is more than likely the myeloma I've had for over a decade, but could also be osteoporosis.

Quite the choice I'm sure you'll agree.

Anyway, upshot was I needed an MRI scan.  Quickly.  I reminded the consultant of the metalwork in my back and the presence of a pacemaker that effectively keeps my heart going.  Not to worry he says, it'll be a specialist MRI that takes account of all those things.

So, my appointment letter arrives and sure enough, it was for a very quick scan date.  No hanging around.  There were some safety questions on the letter which if answered in the positive I would need to contact the hospital prior to the scan.

One of these asked whether I had a pacemaker fitted.

Of course I do, and you already know about it so I wasn't going to bother contacting them.  But my wife, who is a goody two shoes and stickler for the rules said that I better had just ring so I did.  I left a message on their answerphone confirming the presence of my life support system.

Within an hour they rang back.

Because of my pacemaker they can't do the scan.  I told them that my consultant had requested a special, pacemaker-friendly version, but was told that wasn't possible as the waiting time for such a scan is (and you really won't believe this) over a year!!

I stated that in all likelihood I'd be dead by then, but was told there were many people in the same boat as me and having to wait their turn.  And so would I.

I've contacted my care team to see what they can come up with, but I'm not holding my breath.  Not for a year anyway.

To cheer myself up I took a picture of some leaves for a change...

At least using my little home office won't be frustrating any more as I've completely remodelled it.  Here's a look at my new desk set up...
