sky, sea, rocks, foam, wet feet

We had our first storm of the Autumn recently.

And, of course, I had to take a picture of it.  But of what? I really struggled to find a composition I liked, and that I hadn’t shot before.  So, I landed on these two rocks at Bracelet Bay in Mumbles leading out to the stormy horizon. Nothing great but the best I could find.

I set my camera on its tripod and used a 3-stop neutral density filter to slow the shutter speed just a little to capture some motion, and metered on the brighter, white water to keep the sky nice and dark and moody.

I got two images I sort of liked: one in colour (wave retreating) and one in black and white (wave advancing), both cropped square which (I feel anyway) adds drama.

Hopefully by the time the next storm rolls in I’ll have a clearer idea of the images I want to make. But, for now, these are all I have.
