woo-hoo!!

It’s my birthday today!

I’m 55.  I know, I know.  It’s hard to believe as I don’t look a day over 54….

Anyway, I started thinking that everyone around my age has lived through probably the most revolutionary and innovative period in the entire history of our planet.

Space flight, a man on the moon, mobile computing devices (you can’t really call them ‘phones any more can you), extreme miniaturisation, digital media, complete eradication of many diseases (and the emergence sadly of AIDS), the cold war, hot wars, nuclear armament and the campaign for its disarmament, digital satellite broadcasting, the millennium, the internet, exploring the depths of the oceans....

Just a small cross-section of the events my generation has witnessed.

our wonderful, beautiful home

When you look at it, we are a tiny, minuscule minority of the population of this planet that has ever existed and that has had the extreme privilege to have experienced so many special, momentous events and occurrences.   I’m glad I’ve been alive to see them all.  Well, most of them.

My mother always said I was “special”…..

  2. HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY, NICKY! Sorry I missed the day, but I was out wining and dining(well, mostly dining) my Ree, as it was also her birthday! You and my wife share the day...

I'm just about 10 years older than you, so I too, have seen my share of wonderful, exciting, moments in time and history, as well as the horrendous. I remember the excitement of John Glenn orbiting the earth, later, the moon walks, JFK's assassination, and living through September 11th as an adult with a young son. He and I had been at the top of the observation tower just two days earlier. Then I think about what my 90 year old father has experienced in his lifetime...boy, the stories he could tell... so, yeah, when you think about it, it is all humbling. I for one am happy you've remained with us this far, and shared your talents and wit with us..
    HAPPY BIRTHDAY my friend!
