perseverance

I spent just over 2 weeks in Kent, capturing images at locations I wouldn’t normally get to visit and expanding my photographic horizons.  But for most of my time there I was frustrated by the light at dusk, as each evening around half an hour or so before sunset a bank of cloud would settle on the horizon blanking out any chance of golden light.

One evening though, while out location hunting and hoping for a decent sunset we came across a view of London’s banking district skyline around 20 miles or so away.

Cursing my decision not to bring a telephoto lens with me, I put on my 32-64mm lens (which gives around a 50mm full-frame equivalent field of view), pointed it in the general direction of London and snapped away.

The image you see today is a heavily cropped portion of the captured frame (testimony to all of the Fuji GFX’s 51.2 megapixels!).

Now, the light is undeniably spectacular.  But, for me anyway, the image is absolutely made by the soft, green grass in the foreground.  It’s perfectly juxtaposed to the saturated sunset light and crisp, glass fronted buildings in the city, and there is just the slightest hint of the cool breeze blowing that evening.

Anyway, the nights are now slowly but surely getting longer and I look forward to the weekend when we put the clocks back and I can return to making images at much more palatable times of day!
