Tankerton

Just along the north Kent coast from Whitstable you’ll come across Tankerton. It’s a lovely coastal town with beautiful houses along the road adjacent to the shoreline.  I would love to live there – it’s that nice.

Anyway, for my latest image I returned there to get a picture of the waves breaking over the shingle beach.  I wanted to show some motion in my scene rather than render the sea as being completely flat calm, so I chose a 3-stop filter which gave me a shutter speed of 2 seconds.  This proved to be just long enough to convey that motion I wanted.

I like the way the image evokes the sound of a wave breaking over the shingle and then that lovely sound of the small pebbles being bashed together as they are dragged back by the receding water.

The setting sun provides the perfect backdrop for the image, lending a beautiful soft light and pastel hue to it all.

How very peaceful!!

Bonus image!!!!!  Here are the beach huts on Tankerton's promenade, lit by the sun just as it dips below the horizon.

Post script: Tomorrow sees the fourth anniversary of the stem-cell transplant that undoubtedly saved my life. Four years is a long time for the effects of the transplant to last - testimony to the fact that I have looked after myself really well I think.
