anger management

NB: this post was written well before the Covid-19 outbreak

Now I know computer passwords are there to keep us, our data and our computing devices safe.

I absolutely get that.

What I don’t get it is being repeatedly asked for that same password within seconds of just typing it in.  Especially when typing it in means choosing letters from a list and not actually using a keyboard.  You know, when you have to press a button to move a cursor across your TV screen?

I wanted to download the Netflix app for my Apple TV the other day.  Simple enough you’d think but no.

I had to enter my password to access my Apple ID.  Then I had to re-enter it to access the Apple TV app store.  Then again to actually download it.  And then I had to input my password again to actually use Netflix.

By the time I’d done all this, the show I wanted to watch had been deleted.

And don’t get me started on actually creating a password.  More than 8 characters long, upper and lower case, a number, a character, your blood group and mother’s maiden name.  And woe betide if you then write it down somewhere.  The computer police will smash your door in and off you go to jail.

I’m sure this is a conspiracy by these expensive password management apps that keep being pushed at me.  Put your master password in once they say, then never have to worry about passwords ever again.

That'll work as advertised…

  1. Hahahahahaha, I feel your pain! When my email account got stolen last year I decided it was time to take a firmer grip on things. I now have a GAZILLION different passwords written on TWO sheets of notebook paper! It fills both pages front AND back! I'm constantly looking up which password goes with which account! :(
