this was a tricky shot to get

NB: this post was written well before the Covid-19 outbreak

Back to more coastal sunset photography this week - sorry.

I wanted to include this image though as it was incredibly difficult to get right.  In fact, I don't think I have but there we go.

The problems were two-fold:

- the really bright setting sun
- a gale force wind blowing sea spray continuously onto my lens.

I tried to overcome the bright sun with my reverse grad filter.  But it was just too bright for the 3 stops of light my filter affords.  The spray necessitated constant wiping of the filter but even so it was too strong to overcome.

The image though does reflect the conditions.  The detritus on the beach really shows the aftermath of the latest storm (in fact there was a whole tree - no I'm not exaggerating - just behind the sea wall behind me!)

Anyway, here it is:

Fujifilm GFX50R, Fujinon GF23mm f4
1/8th of a second at f14, ISO 100
tripod, self-timed release, Formatt Hitech 3-stop reverse grad filter
