the isolation diaries - week four

I broke my enforced imprisonment this week.

I simply couldn't take any more so on Thursday I took Dexter for a very short walk around the block for around 20 minutes or so.

I put a mask on for safety's sake.
No idea why everyone avoided me though :-(
It was surreal.

I hardly saw anyone, and anyone I did see crossed the road to maintain social distancing.  It all felt very impersonal, unfriendly and frankly unpleasant.  I didn't see a single car driving on the road or anyone out jogging, cycling or in their gardens.

Anyway, for all the negatives I did actually enjoy it.  And so did Dexter!

One of the reasons I felt the need to get away for a few minutes was the weather.  Usually at this time of year it's changeable to say the least and usually quite cool, but I don't think we've had a spot of rain in the four weeks I've been stuck at home and it's been unseasonably warm.  And this weather is forecast for the next 10 days or so at least.  You couldn't make this up.

Of course, the second the lockdown is lifted the weather will return to its usual Spring state of rain and hail and cold temperatures.  Now, I don't mind this any more and in fact I prefer colder weather now, but it is strangely ironic that our normal weather patterns have been so different.

The non-stop sunshine has brought one bonus though.

I've been studying the light as it shines through my bedroom window.  I've never noticed it in the 27 years I've been living here but these last few weeks have been strange to say the least as I've been searching for anything to photograph.

My bedroom faces due South, so gets light for virtually the whole day, and as it streams through my blinds it makes for some interesting patterns and an excellent study in light and shade.

As I write this, the UK lockdown has just been extended for at least another three weeks.  Oh well, at least that's another period of uninterrupted sunshine guaranteed then!

  2. Um Yea Nick..I would've crossed the street as well if I saw you in that mask. Now, if Dexter would wear a matching mask that would have been horrifying!
