deep in the forest

A trip to the forest above Ystradfellte in the Brecon Beacons National Park last month resulted in two images I'm really happy with.

The first is of a simple forest floor scene, and I love the detail in the moss that my Fuji GFX camera has captured.  There were little cameos like this littering the forest, but this was my favourite I think because of the pinecones.

I wanted to separate the little stump and the moss from the background, so got right down to floor level (not easy for me, believe me) and shot at f4.  Also, as I was so close to the scene, the large aperture meant I had to shoot three images focussed on different parts of the foreground and subject and blend them in Photoshop.

The second image is from a little further into the forest, was much, much harder to get and is a really spooky scene. I say harder because this was shot on the spur of the moment, handheld at 1/8th of a second with no image stabilisation.  It is therefore just a little blurry unfortunately.

Although not up to the usual technical quality of my images on here, I wanted to include it as it really conveys the atmosphere of the forest.  The sun was barely breaking through the canopy overhead, but it was enough to illuminate this little clearing and the vague path leading further into it.

I didn't follow it!

On my way out and back to the car I spotted another lovely little scene, but the light was too flat to do it justice.  So, I snapped it on my iPhone and made a mental note to return again some time. I think early morning with some mist around would be the best time.
