still not perfect

I think I've mentioned this before, but I have an image in mind that I want to make.

why didn't I go out???
It's of a small, unremarkable stone barn in a field above the Neath Valley, and in my head it's a frosty winter's morning with a light mist rising as the low winter sun gently warms the hoar frost that formed overnight on the grass and bracken.

It's lovely, and one day I will be successful.  But not just yet.

One evening last week (I'm writing this on 30th August) we had a spectacular sunset.  I think the conditions were just about perfect as areas of low and high pressure combined to draw north winds down over the UK which then hit warm air producing wonderful cloud formations that were then lit by the setting sun.

I was at home.  Not out taking pictures.

So, the following evening I headed out to my barn.  Knowing that a frost was impossible, I figured that I could still get an image of a hopefully dramatic sunset and that at least I could hone my composition for that winter morning when things would be just so.

Although I didn't get the same wonderful conditions of the previous evening, I still managed to get an image I'm incredibly proud of.  The light has a soft almost dream like quality to it lending a painterly look to the image.  OK, so it's not a misty, frosty sunrise shot, but I'm getting there!

  1. 'Painterly' is the perfect description! It reminds me of a Thomas Kinkade painting! :)
