regrets - I've had one or two

Looking back at my life to date, there are very few things that I really, really wanted to do that I haven't accomplished.

Some are still on my bucket list but there are some that I'm no longer physically capable of achieving.

One feat that got to quite an advanced stage of planning before everything went tits up was the Three-Peak Challenge.  An assault on the three highest mountains in Wales, Scotland and England.

I've climbed to the top Pen-y-Fan, the highest peak in southern Britain a number of times, but have never climbed Snowdon in North Wales, Scaffel Pike in England or Ben Nevis in the Scottish Highlands.

I'd harboured desires to make this challenge after reading about it over and over in an old copy of National Geographic magazine.  I've been a NG subscriber for many years, mainly to look on in awe at the photography.  But this story of a team who were attempting to set a record fastest time and climb all three within 24 hours was one that I read many times, and still do today.

I'll never achieve this now, and that does make me feel sad.

  1. Whoever (or is it whomever....) is posing in that pic does NOT look enthused! 😂
