using filters for photo and videography

Part of this blog's purpose is to entertain - well, hopefully!

Another is to showcase some of my better photographs.

And a third is to provide some sort of photographic tuition or guides.  So, today I'd like to draw your attention to a brand-new free guide to choosing, buying and using photographic filters.

I've been using them for longer than I care to remember both for my stills and video workflows.  And although the function of filters like graduated neutral density ones can now be easily replicated in post-processing software, that of others like a polarising filter isn't.

I used a neutral density filter to lengthen the shutter speed and get a lovely, dreamy look to the water here; not a "look" I could recreate easily when processing the image.

In the guide I recommend which filters to get and their order of importance.  Go on, take a look - especially if you've just maybe had a new camera for Christmas and are looking to get creative with your new image-making tool.

And to accompany it I've made a video.  Well, did you really expect anything less?  Watch it by clicking below.  OR ELSE!!!!

And if one video just isn't enough, there's a bonus music type video for you to watch (hopefully) this week too:
