the ideal laptop for 90% of everyone
My poor, long suffering wife isn't much of a techie type person. And as such she's always just had my hand-me-down MacBook, iPad, iPhone, etc for as long as we can remember.
But she needed a new laptop and as it happens Apple just released what is probably going to be their best selling computer ever - the MacBook Neo.
Yes it has shortcomings (8GB of RAM, a 256GB SSD, no backlit keyboard or touch ID) but at £599 for a computer that's built to last for years (no plastic here!), will no doubt retain its value better than any Chromebook or Windows machine and runs MacOS it really is the computer that most people really need for everyday tasks like web browsing, email, creating the odd document, etc.
So, it made me laugh when watching some tech reviewers slate it as slow to perform tasks like video editing, rendering 3D models, playing complex games and so forth. What exactly do they expect from a machine whose target audience is more concerned about its colour than whether it'll render a 45 minute video in 8 seconds!!
I really wonder what they were expecting a laptop at this price point to actually do.
And, erm, yes. You can edit videos, photo's, etc. on it. You can play games, write code and perform other reasonably complex tasks. It's just that it wasn't what the machine was designed or built to do.
Oh, by the way, I got Lisa a pink one...

One more thing (as the great Steve Jobs used to say), the videos are back. OK so it's just a short re-working of the "Welcome to During the Meanwhilst" channel video, but keep an eye out for more over the coming weeks. If you want to that is.
