it was 40 years ago today...

...I went to Wembley to see a great band play!

12 July 1986.  A Saturday night. Wembley Stadium.  The Magic Tour. QUEEN!!

Yep, precisely 40 years ago I watched my favourite band for the 5th time as they played the second of two nights at the famous Wembley Stadium in London.  It was an intimate little show, just 71999 other people and me!

A year on from their legendary Live Aid performance, the band rocked through two hours of their greatest hits and album tracks under a huge lighting rig and backed by a massive PA system.  Queen never did anything by half.

The whole day was a triumph though, with The Alarm, INXS and Status Quo providing the support before the main event.

Little did I or anyone else in that ground, know, but this was the penultimate time the band (in its original state at least) would play live in the UK.   I was lucky enough to be at that last evert show (at Knebworth Park) too, but Wembley was historical; the band in their natural home - massive but somehow small enough to actually feel intimate.

40 years though!  FORTY YEARS!!
