big sisters are good for some things....I suppose

When I was a very small boy, about 3 years old I would imagine, I had a habit of destroying anything that belonged to my older sister.  Dolls, photos, books, her train set even were no match for my little engineering fingers.  I once wrote on her Latin homework causing her to have a row in school (and probably cry because of it) and ultimately I think this made her fail her Latin A 'level (and probably cry because of it).

So it's no real surprise that relations between my sister and I were strained to say the least. But those day are gone and we love each other dearly now.  No really, we do.

A few years ago while visiting her, I spotted a shiny, beautiful machine in the sitting room. A new Apple iMac (I think a G5 model).  I was instantly reminded of my childhood and a very real desire to take it apar....

No.  Thinking back to the beige PC of gargantuan proportions that dominated my spare room at home I was instantly filled with jealous rage and a very real desire to take it apar....

No.  Again.  What I was filled with was a very real desire to own one of my own.  A desire that led to the Apple website and, as my sister was still teaching at the time, a very healthy discount at the Apple store.  But what was even better was that my iMac was a newer model (a mid 2007 one) which instantly filled my sister with jealous rage and a very real desire to take me apart.

We became linked by Apple at a time when their machines were far from a common sight anywhere and particularly here in the UK.  Being a man I of course learned how my computer worked very quickly and was soon helping my puzzled sibling with her own iMac and telling her how to do certain things with it.

About 18 months ago I bought myself a new iMac (a lovely 27" model) and passed my first one on to the person who first inspired me to buy Apple: my lovely sister, Corinne.

She gets her own back now though.  By saving all manner of rubbish to the desktop of her iMac she's committing the equivalent crime of me taking her teddy bear apart and writing on her Latin homework.

prohibere posset et nunc!
