comfort

I think I mentioned in a previous entry how much I hate shopping.

But a number of years ago I had to make such a trip because I needed, to put it bluntly, buy some new gentleman's underwear.

A pack of 7 (some of you will have worked out that with washing this is a week's supply for a normal person, or 3 years for a student) was duly bought at a local store and I returned home within minutes a happy man with my new purchase.

These pants (I'll use the UK word for them) were by far the most comfortable I had ever worn.  They were of the mid thigh length variety with a thick waist band - sheer bliss.

After a couple of years use though (I told you - I hate shopping and will make things last) small holes started to appear between the waistband and the leg part of the garment.  No worry though - still years of service left.

About 2 years later though the holes started getting larger and I was going to have to contemplate maybe just maybe, having to say a sad farewell to my pants.  But they kept on going.  My wife by now was nagging me daily to buy new ones; she bought me new (expensive) ones by someone named Calvin someone too but I refused to buckle.

Until...

One day at work I had to use the toilet in a way that mean the pants had to come down (sorry for the detail).  That posed no problem.

It was when I pulled them back up and realised that only the waistband was in my hands, the rest of them still around my ankles that it dawned on me I'd have to put Calvin on the next day.  I'm not sure if I cried when it happened.  I know I did when Lisa threw the other 6 pairs out that night.

Happy New Year everyone - and look after those pants.
