falling over

Since getting home, it's been my goal to get out of the house and get some fresh air together with a regaining a degree of normality.

But the weather has been dreadful so I've been stuck indoors.  Until yesterday that is, when the sun was shining and it was a perfect day to get outdoors and have an ice cream.

So the plan was to zimmer my way out onto the driveway and get into  the car, with Lisa then looking forward to pushing me around in my wheelchair.  It would also act as a practice run to get me to hospital on Tuesday for some treatment and tests, so I wouldn't be reliant on an ambulance and the waiting around connected with that.

The plan did not go well.

I got to the end of the hallway, realised that I wouldn't be able to handle the step outside so reversed back into the hallway.  My frame however got caught in the door frame and over I went - falling backwards straight onto the site of my back surgery.

I felt no pain, but had just taken some painkillers as I knew it would be painful in my wheelchair.  So, an ambulance was called and within 15 minutes I was joined on the hall floor by a paramedic going through a checklist to make sure I was OK.

It was a long wait for an ambulance, proof that the srvice is stretched to its limits, before a transfer to the local accident and emergency unit where an x ray thankfully showed that no damage had been done to my surgery and that there was no new damage either.

I have been a very lucky boy.
