Dexter

It is common knowledge and a long held belief that a man's best friend is his dog.

After my 5 weeks in hospital I was worried that my dog, a gorgeous border terrier called Dexter, would have forgotten about me.

And when I returned home on Tuesday there was indeed no great fuss on his part.  No jumping all over me, no leaping around in excitement, no licking or leaping.  I was quite upset.

Until that is I sat on the sofa and my Dexter just gently jumped up, snuggled into my lap and remained gripped as tightly to me as he could until I had to move for fear of getting cramp.

I then decided to go to bed for a while.

Cue Dexter following me into the bedroom, jumping onto the bed and resuming his position as close as possible to me as he could get for the 2 hours I spent asleep.

It's almost as if he knew he shouldn't risk knocking me over or getting too excited, but wanted to show how much he had missed me while I had been away.  Wherever I went, which to be honest wasn't far, he followed me and sat at my feet.

Yesterday things were back to normal.

It seems he did miss me.  I missed him, but now we are reunited.  Man and his best friend.
