a very, very (VERY) Merry Christmas

In what has been the strangest of all years in recent history at least one thing remains cherished (to those that celebrate at least) - Christmas.

I love Christmas Eve.  I prefer it to Christmas Day.  I think it's the memories of getting home from work on that last day before Christmas, pouring a very, very (VERY) large glass of wine and just relaxing.

And then after Bethan was born it was watching the excitement on her face as she made the preparations for Santa to arrive, putting on new Christmas pyjamas, climbing into bed and then Lisa and I kicking back with a very, very (VERY!) large glass of wine and just relaxing.

Nowadays I don't get those same feelings.  I mean, Bethan has grown up and I no longer have work to escape from.  I can no longer stand the taste of wine (or any alcohol for that matter) and even relaxing is difficult due to the levels of pain that accompany me.

But this year, Christmas provides some relief from the stresses of Covid and the other ills being suffered right now.  We'll sit down to our traditional Christmas lunch tomorrow and forget all about what is going on in the world - that can wait for a week or so.

I always reflect at this time of year.  I usually look back at past Christmases, re-visit old photographs and wonder where the time has gone so quickly.

Hopefully when I look back this time next year (if I'm still here) it'll be on a year that saw us finally return to normal, where we have beaten this virus or at least learned how to control and live with it.

Merry Christmas everyone.
