it's all in the little details

Firstly I must apologise for this week's image which, on the face of it, is absolutely rubbish.

I mean, it's not really of anything other than a fallen log on a forest floor with haphazard autumn colours as a background.  It's a "nothing" image really and certainly not one worthy of a place in my portfolio.

But the joy in this image for me lies in all the little things.  The leaves on the forest floor, the moss, the textures.  If you zoom into this image (and I've uploaded this as a high resolution image so you can do just that) you can transport yourself to this location and feel what I felt at the time.  The crunch of dead material underfoot, the softness of the ground, the rustling of the leaves left on the trees.

Look beyond the blandness and the apparent messiness of this photo, and breathe in the atmosphere of a cold autumn day on a hill overlooking Swansea Bay, find yourself in a forest clearing and relax.

Photography isn't always about technical perfection and a stunning composition. Sometimes it's just about a feeling.  And this image, for me anyway, has that in abundance.

Lisa just asked if I could print out a picture of our dog Dexter to make a Christmas card for her parents.  As usual though, whenever it comes to print something (anything) the bloody printer needs an ink cartridge (it has 10 in total).  So I duly changed the offending cartidge whereupon the printer went into some sort of compete meltdown and took over half an hour of whirring and clicking and buxzzing and whatnot before I got the print in my hands.

Is it any wonder printers are the most hated pieces of technological crap that it's our displeasure to own?

Rant over; as you were.

  1. I feel your pain about printers! We finally just bought the one with the cheapest ink refills. (PS I don't think the photo is rubbish at all! It's quite lovely.) :D
