planning ahead

As we approach the end of what has been the most extraordinary year in my lifetime, my thoughts are turning to next year and how I'm going to go about filling it.

There's this blog, of course, and that will remain a constant (don't all groan at once), my Instagram and 500px and my YouTube channel.  These are the things that apart from hospital appointments and check-ups and the odd bike ride fill my time.

I want to do more with this blog.  I've recently been posting on a Monday - Thursday - Saturday cycle, and I want to continue along those lines next year with a post on the last Saturday of each month showcasing the best phone images shot from the month.

My normal photography posts will continue of course, but perhaps the biggest change will be on YouTube.

I want rather selfishly to make videos more for myself. To that end I plan to make fewer but more personal photographic journey videos concentrating on the making of an image, with just one monthly video.  I also want to keep a personal journal where I document the making of these videos along with any end product.  I think it's quite exciting.

There will be other, shorter videos interspersed with these, looking at gear and an exciting series copying iconic images by other photographers.

Whatever, the best laid plans and all that!  So, what actually materialises may be completely different as any schedule is ultimately governed by my illness and subsequent energy levels.

On the book front, I've submitted it to a few publishers, and while they've all come back with positive feedback about the story and images, there's been no firm response in terms of getting it published.

Anyway, whatever and what will be will be, it's good to have a plan I think; to concentrate the mind and stop me from stagnating (or worse).

Here's to 2021!
