we absolutely should buy more nuclear missiles...but not for the obvious reasons

The country, we are told, is on its knees financially.

Covid has ripped through our economy leaving us billions of pounds down on tax revenues and facing up to a huge bill for dealing with the pandemic (badly - but that's not for today).

Public service workers, you know, the ones who have largely kept the country going over the past year, have been told that there is no money available for any sort of real pay rise.  The 1% on offer is effectively a pay cut, and comes on top of year after year of derogatory real term pay cuts.

Yet it seems we have trillions of pounds available to buy more Trident nuclear missiles; presumably so we can blow the world up more than once.  Just where is the money for this being found?

Trident - how super

But I think we should spend the money on them.  Because if we don't, it'll only be given to someone who knows or went to school with or is in the same tennis club as some government official to spend on some complete and utter waste of money.

At least with Trident we'll actually see something tangible for the investment instead of, oh I don't know, giving money to a new, post Brexit shipping company that doesn't have any ships or any experience in shipping, but its directors just happen to be friends with someone high up.  Or ignoring approaches from companies that make uniforms for the Ministry of Defence offering to quickly re-tool to make Covid compliant PPE and instead courting a brand new set-up run by someone who's only other business experience was running a pub.

The government has been far from transparent over its competitive tendering process and methods for awarding contracts just of late.  You really do have to wonder why.

Bring on the missiles I say; and point them at our "leaders".
