home thoughts

We're in the middle of a redecoration project for our bedroom, and for inspiration have looked at a few sources, including the excellent "Never Too Small" YouTube channel along with the BBC Series on Scotland's and Wales's Home of the Year.

Where the latter were concerned, we found that there were essentially two types of homes.

Firstly you had the ones where (usually) a couple had moved in two or three years ago, completely gutted the place and then at obviously great expense hired an architect, builder and designer to provide a property that truly met the definition of the "wow factor".

More room and rooms than you could shake a stick at, fantastically designed and executed features and ultimately a truly lovely house.

Then you had the family homes, where the current occupants had been living for fifteen or more years, with the home evolving around their needs as their family make-up changed; every single square inch of space being maximised and used, with decor that spoke of their personality.

actually I'd quite like a four-room kennel with en-suite and a balcony...

We both found ourselves preferring the latter!

In the main they screamed "comfort" and not "look how much money we've spent".  They shouted "come inside, make yourself at home" and not "look at our minstrel gallery... but please don't actually touch or move anything"!

You might say we're jealous, and that's your prerogative.  But we're really not.  Well, not of those wonderfully ostentatious homes anyway!
