so wonderfully charming
I’m not a huge TV watcher.
I mean, we do have a huge (ish) TV, but aside from a bit of cycling on Eurosport I rarely watch it.
I do watch some niche documentary stuff on BBC iPlayer of an evening but not much. I prefer YouTube these days.
But recently I’ve become addicted to a wonderful programme on the BBC called “The Repair Shop”. The premise is simple: people take old heirlooms along to this old barn in a beautiful part of the old English countryside (quite near where my sister lives actually) where mainly old craftsmen and women from a bygone age sympathetically restore them.

my heroes :-) |
I absolutely love it. For starters I’m someone who prefers to repair something rather than dispose of it and get a new one, and some of the stories are so emotional I freely admit to being moved to tears at least once each episode.
I love watching experts at work, and the ones on this show must be among the best of the best in their respective trades; anything from horology to woodworking with most in between, the show is an absolute treasure. The work they produce simply has to be seen to be believed – it is breath-taking.
I hope they keep making it for years to come.
I don't know.....I kinda' like the wear and tear on old things (like me, lol.) It tells their story......
ReplyDeleteall their restorations are sympathetic Robin - retaining any valuable patina :-)
DeleteOkay, in that case.......maybe.......lol.
