failed ambitions

This latest lockdown has left me trawling through old images on my hard drives to resurrect and publish.

Most of the images I took in 2012 and 2013 were in Waterfall Country in the Brecon Beacons.  I've got hundreds of raw images of numerous falls, and they reminded me of an idea I had at the time.

I had a not unrealistic dream of resigning from my job and becoming a full-time landscape photographer.  This would have meant selling images, calendars and books, shooting commissioned work, providing on-line courses and tuition and running in-field photography workshops.

So confident was I in my knowledge of Waterfall Country that I felt I was qualified to run photography trips and workshops there - sharing the beautiful, rugged landscape with anyone who wanted to explore it, and impart that knowledge in the form of where to stand to get the best images and how to actually get the results anyone wanted.

I knew every short cut, every vantage point and every angle to get great images of all the falls there.  Of course, getting ill meant it could never happen, and I'm certainly in no shape to take myself let alone a group of people to the waterfalls now.

But I still harbour hopes of getting back to at least the easiest to access waterfall before it's too late, and I often wonder what would have happened had I not got ill and actually lived out my dream.

  1. Never play the 'Woulda, shoulda, coulda' game. It's futile. Be grateful that you got all those amazing shots when you were able and now you can enjoy them from the comfort of your easy chair! :)
