will we ever REALLY know?

With vaccines succeeding in driving down serious infection and death from Covid at a faster rate than could ever be hoped for, it seems we may finally be free of the worst of the virus as its spread and effects will be under some sort of control by the summer.

In fact, in England, the PM has announced 21st of June as the date full freedoms will resume; and who knows, here in Wales that could come sooner as vaccination rates are higher here than anywhere in the U.K.

Yay, and praise be!

But did it have to be this way?

New Zealand has shown that with good leadership and progressive thinking life could have returned to normal so much sooner.  They had a swift and total lock down, controlled their borders and insisted on immediate isolation on arrival into the country straight away and overseen swift targeted (and short) lockdowns to control any local outbreaks.  The results?  A staggeringly low number of deaths and little economic disruption.

well done Boris - best stay there

Here though, we failed astonishingly to use our Island status to our advantage, stumbled from one failed strategy to another, saw U-turn after U-turn and infection, hospitalisation and death rates rise to the highest in the whole world.

Given the stark contrast between the best and worst performing countries, is it just possible the powers that be used this pandemic as a way of performing a giant economic re-set?

After all, history shows that in the past economic problems have been “solved” with a good old-fashioned World War.  There is little appetite for one of those these days as one would result in total global destruction, so what to do?

I’m no conspiracy theorist, and I certainly believe that Covid is absolutely real.  What I am questioning is the shambolic response the U.K. government saw fit to “administer”.  And I think it is a perfectly reasonable one to ask.

After all, why, when we held all the aces, did we get our response so desperately wrong?

We placed economic stability above the saving of lives yet achieved neither.  Of course, the fittest, strongest survived – in business as well as in life.  Big business has thrived and become even more prosperous while smaller concerns have gone under.

You’d almost think it was planned.

  1. It happened this way because 'You can't fix stupid'. (and because the powers that be don't care about anyone other than themselves.) :(

  2. yep
I nearly wrote that there are two types of government - those that serve the people and those that serve themselves. I think I know what we have here....
