foggy failure

Way back in early March I woke to find ideal foggy conditions for shooting some eerie woodland scene.  And I had the perfect location in mind.

On the road I grew up on (Gwernllwynchwyth Road - yes, I know!) there is the site of an old, long since demolished mansion house. It was originally built and owned by the founder of the pit where the old pump house I photographed back in my post on 22 March stood.

Anyway, a short hop off the now closed off road, I spotted a tree; lovely old thing and I figured the misty conditions would be perfect.  So, I headed off with my camera.

However, in the 2 minutes or so it took for me to drive the less than half-mile from my house to the tree, the lovely mist was replaced with driving rain.  Undeterred I set forth and risking my camera equipment and general health got an image.

It was a disaster.

The rain caused me to rush my composition (a multi-shot vertical and horizontal panorama) and the final result was...dreadful.  So bad in fact I'm not going to publish it here but if you want to see it you can watch my YouTube video (link below).

Instead, here is a test shot I made a couple of days previously.

Fujifilm GFX50R, Fujinon GF 100-200mm f5,6 @ 100mm
1/5th of a second @ f8, ISO 100
tripod, self-timer release

I will get back there when conditions allow.  But as the approach to the tree is guarded by thick brambles I'll have to wait until they've died back over next winter before I can try again.

Watch in amazement as I battle unfavourable conditions to take the picture of this tree by clicking on the video below:

  1. You have my sympathies......not for the weather that ruined your plans but for growing up in a place with names no child should be expected to learn how to spell!!!! :-/
