a glimpse of Autumn

I don't know why (well I do - it's global warming!) but Autumn this year has been incredibly disappointing from a photographic viewpoint.  No glorious oranges, reds and russet brown tones.  But still just mile after mile of green trees.

At time of writing (12 November) my back garden still looks like it did at the height of summer.  There's even lobelia still flowering and this is normally all done in my garden by mid August at the latest.  And there's little sign of any change on the near horizon.

So when I went out at the start of the month I had no real hope of getting an autumn image. But I didn't reckon on the light being the most golden I have seen for some time.

I make no apologies for sharing five images with you today, as they may be the only things resembling a fall shot that I actually get this year!

The first one is a seven shot panorama - and the original file is some 300 megapixels in size!

Fujifilm GFX100, Fujinon GF100-200mm f5.6 @ 105mm
1/5th of a second @ f18, ISO 100
tripod, nodal rail, self-timer release

This second shot is a much more traditional one, but I applied a dark vignette in post processing to concentrate the eye on the light hitting the central peak in the image.

Fujifilm GFX100, Fujinon GF32-64mm f4 @ 64mm
1/9th of a second @ f16, ISO 100
tripod, self-timer release

The next two were shot with my drone.  I rarely use it for still photography with its main use being recording b-roll for videos.  But I'm really rather happy with how they turned out.

DJi Mavic Drone, 4.73mm f2,2 lens
1/60th of a second @ f2.2, ISO 100

DJi Mavic Drone, 4.73mm f2,2 lens
1/80th of a second @ f2.2, ISO 100

A return to my camera for the final image - it's of this barn that I keep being drawn back to and that you've seen on here before.  This image is still not what I'm looking for at this location.  One day maybe; one day…

Fujifilm GFX100, Fujinon GF23mm f4
1/10th of a second @ f16, ISO 100
tripod, self-timer release

And just in case you missed it, here's my video of this trip out:

  1. I'm wondering what's in the barn......? Old buildings fascinate me. ;)
