border terriers are the best

Dexter is a border terrier.  A breed of dog that I absolutely love.  And for good reason - they are loyal, friendly, intelligent (and belligerent!) gorgeous little dogs.

We got Dexter as a pup nearly eight years ago now.  We got him because of Jack.  Jack is my sister-in-law's border terrier and is just a couple of years older than Dexter.  And we love him as much as we love our own pup.

When Jack was a puppy, he used to jump up on to my shoulder and lick my ears for ages! Then he'd fall asleep on my lap while I smoothed him until he was ready for his next round of playtime.

Jack and Dexter get on really well too.  If Dexter has a fault, it is that although a fully socialised little dog, he can sometimes be aggressive towards other dogs.  He only has a go at dogs much larger than him though - I think he has "small man" syndrome; constantly having something to prove!

The two of them together though are fine, and always have been when in each other's company.  When they were younger they used to chase each other around the house and garden for hours.  Now older though, they have a mad five minutes before just lying down next to each other and sleeping.

They have very different personalities though, and while as soon as I point a camera at Dexter he turns away or runs off, Jack is very happy to pose for a portrait for ages.

Jack

Jack still has time to jump onto my shoulders and thoroughly clean out my ears though, only this time after a much longer snooze!
