any old iron

I'm facing a crisis with my landscape photography right now.

Around this time every year I start to lament the passing of the winter and spring, and dread the forthcoming summer.  I think I have reverse seasonal adjustment disorder (I think that's what it's called).

But this time around it seems worse.  I just have zero desire to get out with my camera. Conditions aren't great, with seemingly wall to wall blue skies when all I want is a dull. cloudy day at the seaside.

Anyway, I found myself thinking what would I do if I did just gave up.  While I couldn't stop taking photographs altogether, if I'm not looking for that award-wining image why not just downsize, sell everything and take pictures for fun.

And I decided that if this were to happen, the camera I'd choose wouldn't be some new-fangled super-duper thing.  It'd be a 10-year-old Fujifilm - an X-E1 to be precise.  And I'd partner it with a couple of small prime lenses.

This kit would be small and light to carry around, fitting in a pocket or, if I needed more lens options, a small shoulder bag.

Just as well that I already own such a kit then!

It's the one I take with me virtually everywhere I go to just enjoy the process of taking photographs of, well, anything to be honest.

Right now it's a very tempting prospect.  But I know that if I did sell up, we'd immediately get the rarest and most beautiful sunrise or sunset ever and I'll be capturing it on a pocket camera!

Ever wondered what I use to haul my main, more professional camera kit around in?  No? We ll I'll tell you anyway in this second video:

  1. I think this is the natural evolution of a hobby......downsizing. ☹️
