the scourge of the gardener

Now, I'm not much of what you'd call a gardener.  Yes I like my little plot of this earth and enjoy planting and looking at nice things, but a plantsman I am most certainly not!

We did away with our back lawn after we'd had Dexter for around 3 months and realised that he liked digging much more than I did!  But we kept a little patch of grass out the front of our house.

When I was younger and fitter, I loved my lawns.  I'd mow them twice weekly and feed them religiously until they resembled the finest manicured turf you would find anywhere.  These days, well let's just say I'm not as keen.

We have someone mow it every fortnight and as for feeding, that's just twice a year now - once in spring to promote growth and once in autumn to suppress it.  And as a consequence we now have some weeds in it; not many granted but they are there.

And it's one of these weeds that's the subject of this Thursday's post - the humble dandelion.

Most gardeners hate them.  They root deeply and spread out over the grass killing anything beneath it.  But I love them.  I think they're stunningly beautiful.

If you're of the persuasion that all weeds must die, then have a look at these pictures I've taken of my dandelions, and tell me they're not lovely!

I think it's fair to say I've become rather obsessed with photographing them!

And another obsession of mine is acquiring camera gear.  In the video below I outline three reasons why you should buy a now 14-year-old camera in 2022.
