gotcha

I've made little secret on here of my desire to get a half-decent picture of the rather ironically named Common Blue butterfly.

Although I do get to see quite a few around my home area, they're just never still long enough for me to get that picture.  Well, I guess you'd always be on the move too if you were bright blue and a bird's favourite snack!

But just a couple of Saturdays ago, my wife and daughter were out on a walk when they phoned me to say there were at least ten, maybe more, blue butterflies in a small field near our house.  So, I grabbed my camera and rushed (well, as much as I can rush) down to where they were.

And I wasn't to be disappointed.  There were blue butterflies everywhere.  I got a few images, but this one below is my favourite:

Fujifilm X-H2, Fujinon 100-400 f4.5-5.6 @ 400mm
1/550th of a second at f5.6, ISO 125
handheld

And as if this weren't enough, I got this lovely shot of the rather aptly named small-white butterfly while making a visit to Limeslade Bay at Mumbles.  If you look carefully, you'll see that it's in flight, so an incredibly lucky moment.

Nikon D700, Micro Nikkor 105mm f2.8G
1/2000th of a second at f3.2, ISO 200
handheld

This does of course mean that my luck has completely run out!!

For this week's video, join me at Limeslade Bay for some coastal macro shooting, including the small-white capture:
