oh, that's how you do it

I am what is known in modern terms a "creative".  I think it's a polite term for someone not quite good enough to be an artist!

Anyway, my creativity extends to photography, writing this blog and a spot of YouTubery.  And it's as the latter that I've started getting videos pushed into my feed telling me how I can improve my channel, exponentially increase the number of viewers and subscribers I currently have and unlock untold riches by allowing adverts into my videos.

How then can I do this, I asked myself.  And if the answer lay in these videos, it seems it's all very simple.  I mean titles like "Easily Make $1000 a Month on YouTube", "How Cracking the YouTube Code made Me a Millionaire", etc., etc.

So, I dutifully clicked on a few of them, and it seems the formula is really very simple.  All, and remember "all" I need to do is:

- find my unique niche

- make really, really good videos that engage your audience

- publish them regularly (once a week at least).

And that's it.  Sorted.  Quite how I'm not currently sunning myself outside my Caribbean Villa I really have no idea.

Of course, it isn't that simple.  Billions of videos are uploaded to YouTube every week, and mine along with those of the majority of other creatives are buried and seen by a handful of people only.

The funny thing is all these videos promising unimaginable wealth just by making a short video once or twice a week do have millions and millions of views.  And that, I think, is quite sad.  And it's ironic because if you search for "how to make money on YouTube" you'll be greeted with thousands of videos.  Not really very niche then!

It's sad though because it means there are many, many people who believe they can make it as a YouTube personality.  It's sad because some of them will send money to another "creative" just to be told to come up with a unique idea and then work really hard at making videos about it.

Now, I'm happy with having a tiny YouTube channel.  It means I have a small community of regular viewers, some of whom I now count as friends even though we've never met in real life. I don't need to make money from my channel either.  Which is just as well, because I have a niche, and publish videos usually twice a week.

Trouble is, they're just not very good!

And you can find that out just by clicking on my latest offering below…

In this week's tech Tuesday video, I re-visit the very first digital camera we owned.  And as it still works I thought I'd pit it against my current iPhone to see how it performs.  You can see the results by clicking below:
