a black slip wasp

I can't believe my luck in getting this shot back in mid-October.

My daughter had spotted this critter outside on a window but by the time I got outside with my camera it had flown - long gone.

Then, around a week or two later I was outside trying to photograph a false widow spider that had a web underneath our bedroom window (we live in a bungalow so no heroics or ladder needed!) when I spotted this wasp fly right by me and land in a nearby olive tree in our front garden.

As I had my camera with me, I was now primed to grab an image of a black slip wasp (but you already knew that from the title!).
