a killer in your garden

It's mushroom season, and along with the strange, unusual and sometimes beautiful species come the poisonous ones.  Some have hallucinogenic effects, some make you ill and some, like these funeral bells below can even result in death if eaten.

And these were growing in our garden, in a pot that contains a palm!  A real killer on the doorstep.

Of course, having two terriers in the household who investigate everything with their mouths first and worry later their presence is a concern.  So, I've removed all that I can see and will make sure to keep checking every day to make sure they don't come back.

Anyway, this is what they look like:

They usually grow in small clusters or sometimes individually, but if you have small children or pets, I'd advise removing any you might find.  The mushrooms that is, not your children or pets. Well, definitely not the pets...
